Sala de Lectura
Miyó Vestrini
Named in honor of Venezuelan journalist and poet Miyó Vestrini, this reading room provides access to Venezuelan history, design, and literature, as well as books and ephemera from Latin America, the Caribbean, and their diasporas.
We host rare publications, zines, posters, ephemera, and small press editions that document the region’s diverse histories and movements. The collection offers a view centered on Latin America and the Caribbean from the 1920s to the present. Featured within are works by graphic designers, visual artists, and writers, including Salvador Garmendia, Hanni Ossott, Miyó Vestrini, and Víctor Viano. Currently, our holdings span Venezuela and 20 other countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, with expanding representation.

Our Reference Library
Our reference library fills in gaps in histories through literature, scholarship, and design from different groups of people. The collection foregrounds themes such as feminist activism, political resistance, experimental design, race, gender, and alternative publishing.
Latin@s and women remain underrepresented in the fields of publishing and design, reflecting broader issues of inequality and access within the creative industries. According to the AIGA Design POV Research Initiative (2021), “Hispanics and Latinx” individuals make up 9% of the design community in the USA, despite representing 19.5% of the US population, per the United States Census Bureau.
